10 Things You Will Regret In 10 Years

A few weeks from now we focused on 8 things everyone should do in his twentiesGoals we need to have. Experiences we have to live. Things we have to buyA knowledge we have to improve.

We learn as we go, as we grow, as we make mistakes and learn from them. One of the biggest mistakes we can ever make is letting time tick and life pass without having an effect on us. Our lives are continually changing, people leave, friends change, love hurts, things go wrong and life goes on.

Day after day, our life will change, in one way or another, with a positive or a negative effect, but it will definitely change. It will change us, the way we see the world, and the way we see ourselves. Day after day all those changes will have an impact on ourselves, and we will look back to our younger years with disappointment, for all the things we could have done but we didn’t.

Is that the kind of regret we can afford?

1. Avoiding Changes

The fear of the unknown makes us be afraid of changes,  locking us up in our confront zone. Nothing remarkable will happen if we don’t do something about it. Our present actions will define our future and the only limitations that exist are the ones we place upon us.

Repeating the same activities daily might not seem challenging enough, go a step further and take on those big ideas that will change your life.

Write down the ideas – changes – you have always been longing for (work, love, relationships, travel…). Break down those ideas into smaller goals, in a way that when it’s time to put them into action, the change will seem more achievable. All of those big life-changing ideas will prompt your gut enough to leave your comfort zone and challenge yourself.

2. Working Too Much

We are continuously working, even when we don’t want to. We always have in mind all the tasks that need to be done, and even when we think we are not working, we are, in our minds.

Become self-aware of your time, start realizing when you work, how you work, and how you deal with certain situations. Knowing yourself and your habits will help you to organize yourself in a better way, reducing your work hours as well as your stressful routine.

Take breaks, get time for yourself and your friends and family, practice sport and do not dedicate your 24 daily hours to work, work and work. If you give yourself some time off, you will enjoy your successes and your work routine much more. It is normal to get caught up from time to time, but as soon as you start to be aware of your time, you will learn straight up.

3. Not Taking Risks

Not taking a big risk that could change your life is one of the biggest mistakes we often commit.

Is there something more disappointing than not knowing what could have happened if you wouldn’t have taken that path in your life? Are you willing to live your life wondering “What if..”?

4. Letting Fear Drive Decisions

On the same token as before, the fear of failure is only in our mind. It’s all about having self-confidence and believing in ourselves.

Don’t be immobilized by your fears, try your hardest to make things happen, taking into account the consequences, but not letting them decide who you are or what you have to do. At the end, you will be much closer to doing what you love.

5. Being Sedentary

If only we could spend our lives traveling, going from one continent to another, eating different traditional foods every month… We all wish we could travel more, but we don’t do something about it.

What’s stopping us from seeing the world? We got the time, energy, age and resources we need. What else do we need?

Making excuses, delaying trips or waiting for the right time while saving some money will only make things worse.

Take every opportunity you have to travel around. There won’t be a better timing.

6. Giving Up Too Soon

Once more, it’s all about self-confidence. If we set big goals that are elusive to achieve, and we do not see results, we can be frustrated enough to start considering giving up.

Setting up big goals, putting effort into making something happen and seeing no progress can make us feel immobilized.

When something like this happens, all you have to do is try our utmost to make it happen, until you have tried everything. If you get to a point where you feel like there is nothing else that can be done, then break your goals into smaller objectives, and try to achieve at least part of it. But under no circumstances should you give up on your dreams and goals.

7. Wearing a Mask To Impress Others.

This is one of the biggest mistakes we all regret at some stage of our lives. We all have pretended to like something or to be someone we are not just to cause a good impression.

Although at that exact moment it might seem like it’s the correct thing to do, there can’t be something more wrong. You can’t fear other’s judgments, you have to be ourselves. There is no need to impress others. If they don’t like who you are, why would you pretend to be something you are not? Why would you live in a lie?

When you spend so much time pretending to be someone else, at the end you will forget your roots and who you really are.

8.  Endlessly Waiting For Tomorrow.

We love to procrastinate. In fact, we procrastinate during our entire life. Whether it’s because of the lack of motivation, or because we think we don’t have the right skills, or because of the fear of failure, we are procrastinator experts.

We think we will have time in the near future to perform an unpleasant task, and we do until we don’t.

There are always tasks we don’t like or tasks we don’t feel motivated about, but before making up excuses, we have to give it a try. Always.

9. Accepting the Discomfort.

This goes in hand with trusting your gut and having self-confidence. There is always an alternative solution, and although it might feel like the wrong thing to do, we have to find alternatives to everything that makes us feel uncomfortable.

If it doesn’t work for us, maybe it’s not the right thing to do. Maybe there is something else waiting for us out there that would make us happier.

Don’t settle for everything. Don’t give up on your dreams just because you are afraid of changing what makes you uncomfortable because you are afraid of facing something worse in the future. Don’t make the question: “What if…?” chase you forever.

10. Neglecting Relationships.

Take care of your beloved ones and never forget who you are and where you come from.

Spend time with the ones you love, before it’s too late. Don’t let anything destroy a relationship that made you who you are nowadays. Remember your roots.
